"Strokes of Hope" Art Auction for local homeless...

Congrats to Dailey Rae whose painting "Starry Night" was featured in the Daily News earlier this week. She donated her painting to the "Strokes of Hope" art auction which raised approx. $1200 for the homeless in our area. Way to go Dailey Rae... your generous heart was a blessing to many!

Hats off to Bailey the artist...

 

Bailey is one of the "Coolest" young artists I know. She is taking lessons from me but I am the one being inspired! She's a 10 year old fifth grader at CFIE. She LOVES art and sees the beauty in nature. She dreams of painting at the beach and attending New Bridge Middle School next year. She is charming, sweet, creative, optimistic, courageous, and has a smile that puts Mona Lisa's to shame. Bailey was recently diagnosed with cancer. Her Facebook page, "Hats Off to Bailey," states... "she is determined to fight and win this battle and to share her hopes and strength with all kids." She has already done that for me... an adult and fellow artist!

All County Arts!

Artists... Bernie Rosage Jr., Stephen Greer, Mitchell Morton and Janet Nickle had the honor of working with over 40 of the best high school artists in Onslow County. We gave a "painting from life" workshop in four different 1 hour 45 minute "break out" sessions. The event is called "All County Arts" and brings together the best artists from each high school in the county for a weekend of collaboration and workshops to celebrate these young artists and promote the arts in our community. The event is headed up by Janae Copeland, Education Coordinator for Arts in the Onslow County Schools, and all the Onslow County high school art teachers. They did a GREAT job in organizing this event which is in its fourth year.

Bernie works on "MLK" Collaborative Art Project with CFIE 5th graders.

 

Over 100 5th grade students at Carolina Forest International Elementary School worked together under the direction of artist/instructor, Bernie Rosage Jr., to create a special painting in February 2013. The collaborative art work is titled "MLK" and is 40"x30" in size, painted with tempera in the pointillism style. The painting celebrates Black History Month and the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr as an American Hero. Congratulations to our 5th grade artists... superb work!

Materials: All materials will be provided by Bernie including drinking water.

Items children need to bring: Packed lunch… Students will need to bring a packed lunch and snack. We will have lunch in the studio.

Workshop Concept: This one day workshop will introduce the students to one of the best known artists of all time, Vincent Van Gogh. Bernie will instruct the students as they each paint their own masterpiece in the style of Van Gogh. He will also talk about Van Gogh’s work and life as he leads them through step by step instructions in painting their own 11x14” acrylic version of Van Gogh’s famous painting, “Starry Night.” This unique painting workshop allows the students to develop art skills in the style and technique Van Gogh used while gaining historical knowledge of the world’s most famous painter. Students will also discovered the power of bright and contrasting colors, plus the use of expressive brush strokes. Painting "Starry Night" is a great opportunity for Bernie to share the concepts of line, movement, perspective, composition, color, and texture with his students... to top that… it will be FUN! Bernie teaching art classes at Carolina Forest Elementary.

Bernie is teaching full time art classes at Carolina Forest International Elementary School from Thanksgiving 2012 until mid-February 2013. He is filling in for art teacher, Mrs. Thompson, while she is on maternity leave. Check out the Carolina Forest web page HERE.

Due to this temporary full time position, Bernie will not be teaching any private art lessons until March 2013. He will continue to have workshops and "How Great Thou ART" classes.

Claude Monet (aka Bernie Rosage Jr,) spent the day with Janet Nickle's 6th, 7th, and 8th grade art classes at New Bridge Middle School in Jacksonville, NC... 12-13-2012.

Bernie covered art history, biography of Claude Monet, the Impressionism Art Movement, and did an Impressionistic painting demo of Monet's home at Giverny, France.

33rd Annual Scholastic Art Awards

The Scholastic Art Awards, Inc., with the cooperation of civic-minded sponsors, is conducting for the 89th year a visual art awards program for middle and high school students in the United States. All 50 states participate in this program, the most respected and prestigious of its kind in our country.

Bernie Rosage Jr., was selected as one of the six regional judges for the 2012 Eastern Region Scholastic Art Awards. He and the other art judges, spent a weekend last January judging over 2500 works of art from middle and high school students from Eastern North Carolina.

Operated by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards recognize student achievement in the visual arts and creative writing. Annually, the Alliance and its 81 Regional Affiliates review more than 100,000 submissions of art and writing by creative teenagers from across the country.



Since 1979, Barton College has hosted the Awards for the largest regional district in the state, currently with 62 counties from Winston-Salem to the Coast. The College is fortunate to be associated with The Wilson Daily Times, which provides financial support for the Scholastic Art Awards program.

The Awards provide the opportunity for teenagers to have their work exhibited in prestigious galleries. Barton College, as a regional affiliate hosts the work of eastern North Carolina award winners, each January. The works of 300 artists who earn Gold Medals and American Visions Medals are included in the national exhibition to be held in New York City.
