April 6, 2013

"How Great Thou Art" Class goes outside April 12, 2013.

Dear "How Great Thou ART" artists...

You probably remember that we discussed during our last class about going outside and painting en plein air to celebrate Spring and sharpen some observation skills.... well... we are going to do that during our next class on Friday, April 12, 2013.  Things will be done a little differently... our devotion time will be replaced with a short plein air demo by Bernie to help you see how the process of plein air painting goes. Please be there early... 9am... and be prepared to paint till 1pm (the cost will be the same even though the time is extended).

We will be painting across the street from the Jean Wenner Studio at the Freedom Fountain. This will make it easier to carry our easels and gear from the studio. If you do not like to stand you may want to bring a lawn chair. It is a good idea to bring a brimmed hat and sunscreen along to protect you from the sun.

One of the main reasons we are painting at the fountain is that Connie approved our class to exhibit our paintings in the upcoming exhibit at the Council for the Arts titled... "The Freedom Fountain." The exhibit will run in May and this is a GREAT opportunity to have your work exhibited if you'd like.

If it is raining, I will bring several photos of the fountain and we paint inside as usual inside the Jean Wenner Studio. Here is a Bailey, the ten year old I have told you all about, with her painting she did during a private lesson. Her painting will hang in the show also.

We will be working with a limited palette in the Impressionistic Style we worked on last session. Do not let the thought of painting en plein air intimidate you... I promise to walk you through it and give individual attention after my demo. Please note that your plein air paintings may not turn out with the finished look you are accustomed too... we are battling the elements and moving light so the plein air painter must work fast and be decisive. You will LEARN a ton of information and gain some skills that will boost your confidence... before you know it you will be joining the OOPS group and plein air painting with us. Check out OOPS at this link... http://oopsnc.blogspot.com/

Last and most importantly... Since our class is now FULL... I need a head count of who is planning to come. Please contact me via email bernierosage@gmail.com if you would like to get on a waiting list for this and other "How Great Thou ART" painting classes.
